剧情简介: As the long, hot summer of 1920 dawns, a remarkable pair of \"armies\" begins to gather in the state capitol of Tennessee. On both sides are men and women, black and white, rich and poor. The town of Nashville is on the brink of becoming a most peculiar battlefield, which leaves an old-time southern governor swimming among sharks as he maneuvers his state into debating the unthinkable. In the spring of 1919, Congress passed the 19th Amendment granting women the right to vote. But in order to become law, the Amendment had to be ratified by a two-thirds majority of 36 states. After thirty-five \"yes\" votes, the ratification effort hits a snag as those opposed to women voting dig in their heels, and by June of 1920, the hopes and dreams of the suffrage movement rest on Tennessee - a Southern state that is politically, socially, and religiously conservative, and where many say the new Amendment will never pass. One young woman finds herself in the midst of this struggle, seeking to find her own voice as she risks all for something greater than herself. Soon, this once naïve housewife is collaborating with a group of courageous women engaged in \"parlor politics\" with some of the most powerful politicians in the country. Meanwhile, a young politician also struggles to find his own voice. He is caught between his contingency, his conscience, and good old boy politicking. And on the fringes of the battle, a middle-aged African-American woman continues the journey for her right to have a voice. This is a story of struggle with ideals and beliefs; a clash between the values of the past, and a brave new future - leading to a decision that will impact the destiny of every generation to come. In the end, it all comes down to one vote...
